The Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) was established to protect, promote and enhance natural, cultural and recreational resources throughout the State of Massachusetts. They manage state parks and oversee over 450,000 acres in an effort to improve the connection between people and the environment.
Building 45 located at the Hingham Shipyard and owned by DCR, is a 23,000 square foot facility that was used to produce military vessels during World War II. Then known as the Bethlehem-Hingham Shipyard, the structure was integral to the production of destroyer escorts and landing ship tanks.
Today, Building 45 is used to support a variety of functions, including DCR’s Islands District Headquarters, DCR’s Boston Harbor Islands Operations and DCR’s Boat Maintenance Operations. There is also an MEP Field Office, MEP Boat Maintenance Operations and space allocated to the Friends of Boston Harbor Islands.
In 2023, Building 45 was modernized under the careful direction of architects, Johnson Roberts Associates Inc. and general contractor, Tower Construction Corp. New windows were installed and enlarged overhead doors were added. The renovated building also includes a 6300 sf facade featuring MEG by ABET LAMINATI. The rainscreen system was installed using our Exposed Fastened (EF) System in 832 Sei.
